Kanye West Calls Racism A Silly Concept & Has No Problem With White People Using N-Word

Posted in: , , , ,

Kanye West had a sit down with Clique TV in France during the Paris Fashion Week which he recently attended with wife Kim Kardashian. One of the topics that came up was racism and Kanye gave his own interesting perspective which is that racism is a non-thing and that it's outdated and overtaken by recent happenings. He also has no problem with white people using the N-word at concerts or singing along to rap music.

“It’s true that white people use that word at concerts. It’s like when my words get taken out of context. I can say anything I want on a beat, but when I would say it in an interview, it would be taken out of context, and all, ‘Oh, he’s an ego-maniac.’ But it’s like, ‘Wait a second, this is the way people rap.'”

Benedict Cumberbatch Calls Black People 'Colored' On TV - Tenders Apology After Outcry

Posted in: ,

Benedict Cumberbatch has got into some hot water after referring to black actors as “coloured” during an interview with Tavis Smiley on PBS a few days ago. The Oscar nominated actor used the phrase during a debate about the diversity problems that black British actors face in the UK compared to the US, which he argued has been more open to casting them.

“I think as far as coloured actors go, it gets really different in the UK, and a lot of my friends have had more opportunities here [in America] than in the UK, and that’s something that needs to change.”

#OscarsSoWhite - Twitter Complains About All-White Oscar Nominations

Posted in:

#OscarsSoWhite is the hashtag many on Twitter especially blacks and minorities are using to call out the non-diverse nominess for this year's Oscars. I mentioned in my initail post that David Oyelowo failed to make the cut for Best Actor like many expected. Others believe the film was generally snubbed, from the director to supporting actor roles, and say that with today also being Martin Luther King day, it would've been a nice birthday present if the film received more recognition.

There are collage photos of the mostly all-white nominess for the best actor, best actress and other categories, comparing them to FOX News anchors, Republican Party presidential hopefuls and senate committee chairmen.

Black Twitter Brings Focus To #NAACPBombing Which Has Gone Unreported

Posted in: ,

First, I saw NAACP trending, followed by  #NAACPBomb and  #NAACPBombing. I finally clicked and found there had been a racially motivated bomb attack outside a Colorado NAACP office building yesterday. The hashtags are asking why no major news outlets have reported on the explosion which the FBI have called "deliberate". This is coming after the uproar surrounding the terrorist attack in France this morning.

Most of the tweets using these hashtags are criticizing the mainstream media for their lack of coverage of the attack. According to the FBI, someone planted an in improvised explosive device on the wall of the group’s Colorado Springs office, right next to a gasoline can. However, when the IED exploded, the gosline failed to ignite meaning that there were no casualties.

After all that has been happening with the police, and especially in New York with the choking death of Eric Garner, one would expect the NYPD officers to be more judicious in their work. The video, uploaded to YouTube last Monday, shows three officers restraining the teenager. Suddenly, a plainclothes officer hurls himself onto the suspect, punching him twice in the back.
